Login Just when Americans were starting to restore their image abroad this happens. MTV announced that season 4 of Jersey Shore will start shooting in Italy in the spring of 2011.
The cast of Jersey Shore will be leaving, well the Jersey Shore and heading to the beaches of Italy. As far as I know, MTV has not announced where in Italy they will be going though my guess is that they will eventually make their way to beaches in the south.
It will be interesting to see what Italians think of this cast of make-believe Italians who refer to themselves as “guidos” and “guidettes”. The cast that made the acronym GTL: Gym, Tanning, and Laundry popular. Cast member Snookie has also made it a habit of getting fall down drunk on a beach, something that is not acceptable in Italy. I will be curious to see if the Italian police are as forgiving of Snookie’s behavior as the New Jersey police
The show has drawn more than its share of controversy in the US over its unflattering portrayal of Italian-American culture. As “The Views” Joy Behar said “the Jersey Shore is so far from Italy they just don’t understand.”
“The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by,” said a MTV executive. “We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.” Many, including Joy Behar, have questioned some of the cast’s rather tenuous claims to even be Italian America.
MTV’s Chris Linn said in a statement, “While the stateside Jersey Shore locales have become iconic for our audience…Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us. The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.”
Snooki, Vinny, Pauly D, The Situation, Jenni, Ronnie, and Sammi plan to show Italians what happens on the Jersey Shore, hmmmmmm I wonder how that is going to go over with the Italians.
