Taking an Afternoon Break like the Italians
I know I keep saying this over and over again but nothing feels better than taking an afternoon break and no country appreciates this more than Italy. This is true whether you are touring around Italy or need a little time to yourself at home.
Having a glass of wine or cup of coffee and a little snack is just the thing to perk up your day.
When you are in Italy almost as fun as taking the break itself is finding a cute little caffe’ or trattoria where you can sit, drink, snack and observe the world around you. In Italy if you order a coffee drink your snack will generally be sweet, if you order wine your drink will tend to be salty or savory.
When I was in Modena I Discovered the Caffe’ dell’Orologio
The caffe’ is located in the passageway between the bustling shopping area and the Piazza Ducale where you can tour the duomo and taste the Balsamico the city is known for at one of the little shops in the area.
Located very near the tourist information center you can bring your pamphlets, maps, etc. to a table at the caffe’ and plan the rest of your day.
Because you are under the high, vaulted arch leading into the Piazza you can sit outside even if the weather is less than ideal. If the weather turns nasty the Caffe’ dell’Orologio has an indoor restaurant.
And, of course, you never know who you will meet while you are resting and relaxing, eating and drinking.
