Torino Winter Olympics - Snowboard Events in Bardonecchia

There are six snowboard events in the Olympic Winter Games: men’s and women’s halfpipe, men’s and women’s parallel giant slalom, men’s and women’s snowboard cross.

The halfpipe competition takes place on a U - shaped course dug deep into a hill. The competitors use the speed they gain on the slope to come up over the rim of the pipe and perform acrobatic aerial tricks.  Competitors are judged by degree of difficulty and form.

The parallel giant slalom is a version of Alpine snowboarding that features head-to-head matches on the mountain. There is a qualification round in which 16 racers are selected to compete on two side-by-side courses until there is a winner.

In the snowboard cross competitors complete a challenging route that includes jumps and obstacles.  Each heat has four racers who start at the same time with the best two proceeding to the next round.

The snowboarding events will be held February 12, 13, 16, 17, 22 and 23.
