Red Wine from Sicily

I was in Sicily a number of years ago and we had a very good red wine.  I cannot remember the name of the wine.  It was not a Chianti, but it was available all over the island.  Does anyone know the name of a red wine from Sicily?

There are many good red Sicilian wines. It is difficult to find what you are looking for without other informations. Perhaps Syrah or Cirasuolo of Vittoria.

Re: Red Wine from Sicily

Sicily is a great place and have great tasting red wine as well. To name a few I would start with Marsala. This wine is the most famous in Sicily. It is a fortified wine with 20% and usually made from native Grillo, Catarratto, or Inzolia grapes. The other one is Zibibbo, same with Marsala but this one is fermented.

There are other great tasting wine in Sicily that awaits for you to discover. But for me a homemade wine is still the best. I can control the taste of its sweetness according to my taste buds and it keeps me supplied with plenty of red wines at home.
