Re: Earthquake in L'AquilaThey said on the news tonight (US) that a lot of the newer buldings collapsed. According to this article at Time.com the building standards in Italy are very lax. They are going to have to figure out why buildings collapsed when in other areas of the developed world new buildings are able to withstand an earhtquake. The article also says the earthquake in L'Aquila was predicted by a scientist. Offline #3 04-07-2009 7:20 PM
Re: Earthquake in L'AquilaThe earthquake in L'Aquila is very sad especially since it is in one of the poorer parts of the country. The people there will have a hard time recovering. If it is true that the newer buildings collapsed as well as the older ones then the government will have a lot to answer to. I think there was an earthquake in a nearby area several years ago where a lot of students died in a school. You would have thought the government would have checked the buildings at that time.
