Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

I know most Americans don't think they like them, but fresh anchovies (acciughe in Italian) are excellent.  The best ones I have had were in Cinque Terre cooked with a little lemon.  They are fresh without a hint of salt.

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

Pizza in Italy?  You kidding?  Pizza, or the varieties as developed in US, is not an Italian specialty and you are better to select more genuine Italian fare in Italy.  Going to Italy for pizza is like thinking you will find in China the same cuisine that is typically served in Chinese restaurants in Europe/N. America.

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

How about the prosciuto!  You can get prosciutto con melone, prosciutto with mozzarella, prosciutto in sandwiches. There is just something about the flavor and consistency of the prosciutto in Italy that is better than what you find anywhere else inthe world.

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

Pizza may not come from Italy, but the best Pizza I have ever had was at a cafe in the ampitheater in Lucca.  The crust had just the right amount of crispiness and the sauce and cheese were delicious.

If you want a good tartufo and the original, go directly to Pizzo (in Calabria).

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

To start with I disagree with F C Lee. Italy is the Pizza's queen with no doubt and you cannot go to Italy, and particularly to Naples, and not eat it. In Naples pizza margherita is served with a finger-licking mozarella, unique in Italy. Pizza in Italy is thin (unlike in America) and is made with light and genuine ingredients (not stuffed like in America). Authorities are trying to 'patent' it!

Insalata di Riso (cold rice with some vegetables) is my favorite summer dish and is served in many restaurants in Italy. I used to eat about 10 dishes a day of it! You can also do it yourself and take it on tour, for a quick super tasty snak.

Of course, Tiramisu' and Gelato are the best sweets. Be careful  (abstainers) that Tiramisu is sometimes made with liquor.

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

It's gotta be the food served in La Tagliata in Positano. I couldn't remember how it's called in Italian but I'd never forget the pasta dishes and the overflowing wine. Good food!

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

Hey Scooter,
We really don't dislike anything and It doesn't even matter a thing belong from where?
If we can get something Which would be good to eat, healthier and would be made by those ingredients that must be Non-Fats. Than we would like it.

Re: Favorite Foods in Italy

"michetta" also known as lombard bread , has worth to eat. "focaccia" (soft bread with oil and salt, it's the top) is very tasty as well. Sicilian bread is second to none.

Tartufu is really an identity of Rome.I must say that it is guranteed that if you use to take Tartufu in Rome then it will be in your memories for the rest of your time. Tartufu is the second most favorite thing in Italy after Pizza.
