Corniglia sits high up in the hills of the Cinque Terre. It is the only village that does not have access to water so there tends to be fewer visitors. The fact that you have to walk up what feels like a million steps also means there are fewer visitors. De Mananan is a typical Italian trattoria. The menu for the day is shown on blackboards in the dining room. I started with a dish of fresh anchovies. Cinque Terrre is known for their fresh anchovies which are nothing likely the salty fish we get in the US. The anvhocies at De Mananan were excellent. After the anchovies I had excellent pasta with seafood. Given its proximity to the sea I suspect there are seafood dishes every day. I noticed that there were a number of vegetarian dishes available. The restaurant is family run and I assume family owned. Local wine is available though I generally avoid the local wine since I think it is too sweet. Other wine was available so we had that. The owners also rent rooms in their farmhouse near Corniglia. In season you need reservations. I highly recommend this restaurant. |
