The Boboli Gardens is one of the famous parks in Florence. It is home to a whole gamut of sculptures and other artworks dating back from the 16th century.

There was Neptune with his trident. There were also paintings, grottoes and plenty of panoramic views to enjoy.

The garden has a man-made water source. The guide said that there was mot natural irrigation in this part of Florence so they have to build one. There was also the amphitheater and a series of terraces with water features.

The tour was fun and educational, too.

Located on the opposite side of the Arno from the Duomo, the Boboli Gardens are a green oasis in the middle of the dark Renaissance architecture that dominates most of Florence. The Boboli Gardens meander up the hill behind the Palazzo Pitti, once the home of the Medici. The garden has numerous fountains and statues as well as a recently restored grotto. Walking paths crisscross the gardens which allow for a peaceful retreat from the crowds found on Florence’s narrow streets. At the top of the gardens a ballroom dating from the 18th century now houses the Museo delle Porcellane (Porcelain Museum. You will get one of the best views of the city and the Duomo from the gardens. There is a coffee house and snack bar in the gardens. A thriving population of stray cats has made the Boboli Gardens their home. Access is from the Piazza Pitti.
