I like Andrea Camilleri. He writes Italian mysteries set in Sicily. His detective Montalbano loves to eat and never lets a murder get in the way of his next meal. Camilleri writing style is witty and smart. He often tackles real issues and puts a Sicilian spin on them. When you read the books you can almost feel the Sicilian sun on your face and taste the fresh linguine con vongole.

Places to Eat in Cinque Terre?

I can't rememer the name, but there is a restaurant in Manarola overlooking the sea that is excellent. You can't miss it. You can also eat lunch in the little cafe on the path between Riomaggiore and Manarolla. The food is not much, sandwiches and chips but the view is spectacular.

If you stay in the Santa Lucia district you can get a hotel that looks out on the Gulf of Naples which is pretty. You can get one of the boats that go to Capri and Ischia from Porto Beverello. The islands are worth a visit.

If you are going to Venice stop overnight in Verona. If you are taking the train to Venice you will stop in Verona anyway. You can have a quiet, relaxing evening before you experience the crowds of Venice.

Taormina is much nicer than Catania. Taormina is beautiful, there are a lot of restaurants and nice places to stay. The views are beautiful. There is a tram that goes between Taormina and the beach. There is also an old Roman ampitheater there.
