A must do for any trip to Rome.  This historic sight was the venue for many gladiator fights during the ancient Roman times.  The entrance line can be very long at times, but you can bypass this by signing up for a tour with a guide outside the colosseum (although you will pay more for this than regular entry).  I recommend either taking a tour or using the audio guides sold onsite to really bring the history of this place alive.  The admission ticket will also get you into the nearby Palantine Hill.

The history of Rome comes alive in the Roman Coliseum. When you stand in the Roman Coliseum you will feel the excitement that comes with knowing you are standing in a structure that was built almost 2,000 years ago.

The Roman coliseum was begun by Vespasian around 70 AD on the site of Nero's residence. The structure was inaugurated by Vespasian's son Titus ten years later, although it was likely finished later by Titus's son. The ceremonies and games held in celebration of the opening went on for a hundred days.

As you walk down the Fiori Imperiali watch the Roman Coliseum come into view. But, if you are visiting in the summer bring a very modern product: sunscreen. There is little shade and it can be very hot.
