Another must-see! I wouldn't miss the Pantheon ever. As an art major, I appreciated history a lot more when I came face to face with the actual artifacts and structures. Such great talent for the architect who designed this colossal building.

There is so much to see inside the Pantheon e.g. paintings, sculptures, busts as well as crypts. This was one of the highlights of our tour. Come to think of it, I think the entire Rome is the highlight of our trip. I really feel in love with this beautiful city.

The Pantheon is one of the best preserved building in Rome. This huge structure was originally built as a temple for all the gods. There is so much history in this building. And I think the Pantheon is the largest dome in Rome if not in the world.

We made the trip in the early morning so we could spend more time strolling. There was a long queue by the time we arrived. I guess everyone wants to get there first.

Anyway, the various paintings and sculptures on displays are really amazing.  My personal favorites are the Assumption (located on the left side of the entrance) and the statue of St Agnes. When you look up the ceiling, there greets you a huge dome with elaborate designs. It was a sight to behold.

The trip to Rome wouldn't be complete without visiting the Pantheon. This huge historic building is simply amazing. We made sure that we went there early because we anticipated the crowd. The paintings, sculpture and art deco were awesome. We spent hours looking at each masterpiece in detail.

One thing that really caught our attention was the huge dome above us. It was like a trip back in time, really. We couldn't help but gush over the beauty of the Pantheon. Imagine if this was perserved in its original state, it would be more beautiful that what it is now.

Awesome! One of the best places in Rome.

When we visited Pantheon, we were awestruck by  the imposing architecture in front of us. Imagine that this building was erected in 126AD and centuries had passed, the building still stands. Fascinating, isn't it? The tour inside the Pantheon was even more overwhelming than the facade. Art deco, paintings, busts fill the interiors. We couldn't help but marvel at the great artwork.

This is an absolute must-see in Rome. We spent half of the day traipsing at the Pantheon.

When you stand outside of the Pantheon in Rome and look up at the Latin inscription across the pediment you are taken back over the centuries to the time of Marcus Agrippa and Emperor Hadrian. The inscription translates as "Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, consul for the third time, built this". Although this is not an entirely correct statement it is hard not to be moved by a building that is 2,000 years old.

The first temple was indeed built by Marcus Agrippa, son-in-law of the Emperor Augustus between 27 and 25 BC. However, this temple was destroyed by fire in AD 80.

The entire collection of Roman gods was called the Pantheon, and in fact in ancient times you could worship any of the gods whose statues were located in the niches in the Pantheon.

If modern unreinforced concrete were used in a building of the size of the Pantheon in Rome it would not stand under the load of its own weight. The composition of the concrete used in the dome is still unknown.

One of the most remarkable things about the Pantheon in Rome is that the inside dome is as high as it is wide, about 142 feet (43.3 m). The dome is the inspiration for many domes that came later including St. Peter's dome designed by Michelangelo and the dome in Florence designed by Brunelleschi.

A circular opening known as the oculus lets the only light in to the Pantheon. The oculus is about 30 feet across. The purpose of the oculus was not only to illuminate the interior but it was also built to let those in the temple contemplate the heavens.

The floor of the Pantheon is slanted to let rainwater drain from the building. The Pantheon is the best preserved ancient building in Rome. The consecration as a church ensured the Pantheon's preservation. The removal of any item, no matter how small or insignificant, constitutes a mortal sin.

Go to the Pantheon in the morning when it first opens so you can appreciate it in silence without the hustle and bustle of other tourists. Lay down on your back on one of the benches and look straight up through the oculus.
