The Palatine Hill is located between the Circus Maximus, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. It is one of the famous seven hills in Rome. Much of the hill is now an excavation site; the most recent discovery is the Lupercal Cave which is said to be converted into an altar as seen by the decorated walls. Like most of the historical architecture scattered in Rome, The Palatine Hill was home to opulent palaces and buildings of the Roman empire. Cicero, Augustus, Marc Anthony -- all had homes in the Hill. What remains now are the preserved ruins of the dated structures and a beautifully manicured garden. It was such a spectacular landscape. |
