Sicily, Italy Vacation Guide

Sicily, Italy Vacation GuideAnyone needing a lesson in how to overcome disaster needs to visit Sicily. Just about any city or area on the island will do. Every few hundred years Sicily was overrun by new rulers bringing new governments, building new structures, introducing different religions and in general populating the island with the melting pot of people you see today. Not to mention that Sicily was overrun by both the Germans and the Allies in WWII. Add to that the eruptions of Mt. Etna and devastating earthquakes and you can see why the locals live for the present. Sicily has some of the best food in all of Italy ... maybe because of all the different civilizations that have inhabited the island or maybe it is because cooking and eating is a great distraction to all the upheaval that has burdened Sicily over the centuries.

1. Mt. Etna - You can see Mt. Etna from all over Sicily, you get the feeling the mountain is trying to lure you to come and visit. Walking along craters and traipsing through the lava of Mt. Etna you will find it difficult to believe that you are still in Italy, you feel like you are on a different planet.
