The Isola di Sant'Erasmo is the largest island in the Venetian lagoon, it is actually larger than Venice though the permant population is only a fraction of that of the city. Much of the fruit and vegetables sold in the Rialto market comes from Sant'Erasmo. The island is know for its artichokes (carciofi) - yum. You will see farms all over the islands. You can take ferry number 13 from Venice's Fondamente Nove. The ferry makes several stops and the trip will take between 30 and 50 minutes. Make sure you get a return ferry schedule before you leave Venice.
