The luxurious Hotel Certosa di Maggiano in Siena is part of the Relais & Chateaux Association of boutique hotels throughout Europe. Although expensive, it is a beautiful place to enjoy the lush landscape outside the walled city of Siena.

Built in 1314 this historic hotel started as a religious retreat and was partially destroyed in a war with Spain, but it was taken over by private individuals and finally sold in 1969 and opened as a hotel in 1975.

With a restaurant, bar and pool and all the amenities you could ask for in the beautifully furnished rooms. It is well worth a visit, even if only for a drink to enjoy the lush atmosphere.
