Re: Venice, Italy in a dayI agree avoiding Piazza San Marco from the middle of the day to mid-afternoon is the way to go. The area gets so crowded. A place that I have visited and found fascinating is the old Jewish Ghetto. It is an interesting area regardless of your religion. So I would add that to my day in Venice. It is also where the Ca d'Oro is. Offline #3 01-22-2009 10:59 AM
Re: Venice, Italy in a dayMight consider Venice in my next holiday. But it's so expensive out there. Do you think it's better to get a place outside of Venice to save on lodging expenses? Or it's too far? Offline #4 01-23-2009 6:55 AM
Re: Venice, Italy in a dayThere are a lot of places you can stay outside of Venice. On one trip I stayed in Verona and took the train in. As I recall it was about an hour. There are places that are even closer. If you go to Venice be sure to walk around areas that are away from the main tourist site. I did not realize Venice had so many small piazza's. They are beautiful and not crowded. Offline #5 01-26-2009 3:24 PM

Re: Venice, Italy in a dayDon't forget to have a drink at Harry's Bar. It is touristy and Americanized but it is still an experience worth having. Offline #7 04-16-2009 3:32 PM
Re: Venice, Italy in a dayI agree that you should avoid the crowds in Piazza San Marco by going in the afternoon. I also agree that if you are there on a sunny day you should splurge and get a drink and sit and look at the church in the late afternoon sun. The sun makes the church sparkle, it is like something out of a fairy tale. Offline #8 04-21-2009 3:02 PM
Re: Venice, Italy in a dayI would be inclined to skip Murano. It is pretty, but if you have a day I would skip it and go to Ca d'Oro. Ca d'Oro is a beautiful palazzo on the Grand Canal. Offline |
