Hotel Location in Rome

I am trying to book a hotel in Rome for my upcoming trip, and I am overwhelmed by trying to choose a neighborhood for a reasonably priced hotel. So far, there are some good options near Termini. Is this an ok neighborhood to stay in Rome? Any other neighborhood suggestions? Any advice would be appreciated.

I stayed near Termini in Rome on my last visit. I can't say that there is a lot to do nearby, but I liked the easy access to Termini for getting around the city. Its not the nicest neighborhood, so if you want a more upscale feel, I would try somewhere else. But for a budget accomodation, I think near Termini may be a good place to start your search.

I would avoid the Termini area if you possibly can. Granted there are inexpensive hotels in the area but I worry about the safety of staying near the train station in any large city.

I have stayed in a number of hotels in Rome that I think are reasonably priced. Of course price is very subjective.

My favorite is the Hotel Cesari:

Both of these hotels are in a great location. Another option is the Hotel Portoghese near the Piazza Navona. When I stayed there 5 or 6 years ago now it was relatively inexpensive.

Larger hotels may provide a number of additional guest facilities such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare, and have conference and social function services. Hotel rooms are usually numbered (or named in some smaller hotels and B&Bs) to allow guests to identify their room.
