Fiesole is a small Etruscan hill town just north of Florence. Life in Fiesole revolves around the Piazza Mino, a charming old square lined with cafés and restaurants. Fiesole is a short taxi ride from Florence and provides a nice break from the city. The Duomo dates from the 11th-century and is worth a visit as are the Teatro Romano and Museo Archeologico. There are spectacular views of Florence, especially from the monastery of San Francesco up the hill.
