The outside of Monreale is not much to look at. It does not look like more than a large parish church but walk through the bronze doors and you will be in awe of the beauty of the interior. Monreale has one of the largest displays of mosaics of anywhere in the world. The church is dominated by the mosaic of Christ Pantrocrater. The church is often referred to as Monreale, in reality it is the Duomo for the town of Monreale. You should spend a little time wandering around the town that surrounds the church. The area right next to the church is touristy with stalls selling the typical kitsch. The church is at the top of a hill, you can either walk up the steps or take a shuttle bus.
